The summer season goes by so quickly. I’m a list maker. I find if I don’t write lists of things I want to do, time passes and good intentions get derailed. To manage my seasonal activities more efficiently I like to make seasonal lists. Making my lists for me, is sort of like my yearly curriculum plan I created in first grade, only “funner”! I wish that was a real word.
I call these my Bucket Lists like most people, but my sister said to me this summer, “why do you have to call it that, it sound like you’re dying”. Yikes! She’s right. So don’t worry sis, I’m on the hunt to wordsmith this phrase. By fall I’ll have a new phrase.
Here goes my 2017 Summer Bucket List. Maybe you can find some events you do as well or have some to add. If so, please comment below.

Bucket Assessment Time
This is not assessment time as in testing in school. Assessment as in how’d I do?? How can I edit the rest of my list to complete more events? Did I do even half? We have a saying in our family if you don’t have pictures to back up what you’ve done and where you’ve been then you didn’t do it. I tried to do this for proof here in this post. So, let’s review the summer thus far in no certain order.
In May I didn’t do a 5k, I did a 10K! It was the national race The Bolder Boulder. I participated by walking cuz running is not my thing yet and my 10 year old granddaughter Ava, had entered the race but was feeling sickly that day. So of course, I offered for her to “run” with me and her other grandmother. Funny thing I plan to do this next year. I had so much fun I’ll be bringing my husband along. It’s really not fair for me to have ALL the fun!
Hike every week. I try to escape to hike in the mountains on the weekends but it didn’t always happen. If I don’t hit the mountains for a hike I’ve been just trying to get out in nature to walk around some of the parks and open spaces near our home.
I went to the pool in our complex weekly for exercise and sun It’s been a scorching summer here so this was so refreshing! As a added bonus I was able to have my daughter-in-law Alisha and my granddaughter Cora spend some pool time with me as well. Joys of grandparenting!
Something that has actually been on our list of things to do is ride the Royal Gorge. My husband surprised me for our 40th Anniversary with tickets to a winery and a ride on the Royal Gorge Train. It was absolutely amazing traveling in a train through the Rocky Mountains which trails along the Arkansas River. We saw many kayakers and people on raft trips rowing their way down the river. Can’t believe we live here and can experience this scenery regularly!
I tried Paddle boarding with my daughter-in-law Jessica and granddaughter Ava at a nearby Reservoir. They have their own paddle boards so I shared with Ava. It was a beautiful calm day surrounded by clear mountains with very few people taking in this amazing day. I would definitely do this again because it is so restorative.
In July I traveled with my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter Ava to go back home to Michigan to visit family. My mom has a home on a Lake that my sisters and their kids visit regularly. My sisters are so busy with their families so I was grateful to have this time with them.
When My dad was here with us, he ensured everyone would want to restore themselves here as every water “toy” that you can conjure up is here for you to indulge in. There are loungers, jet skis, an outdoor triton boat, paddle boat, paddle boards, kayak and even inner tubes. It’s a place of relaxation and family gatherings. Many people that grew up here near the lake and have moved away from the area come back for 4th of July. I was able to catch up with many people all at once. It was a wonderful and memorable time for all of us.
Attending the annual 4th of July Parade with my nephew and his wife. The day was incredibly warm and humid but totally worth the memory and marking our Nation’s Independence.
My husband and I have gone to more concerts and entertainment events more this year than probably the last ten! Here we are at Red Rocks attending Darius Rucker who was amazing by the way. If you get a chance to come here it is MUST to come and attend a concert at Red Rocks. There is nothing more inspiring to sit outside surrounded by mountains, stars twinkling above your head while you are soothed by the music of your favorite artist. Ahhh….heavenly!
We did go to Rocky Mountain National Park last weekend but I didn’t get a lot of pictures. We are returning in a couple of weeks and hopefully I will capture a picture of some Colorado wildlife. Soooooo… I haven’t done too badly thus far. I have a couple of weeks left to squeeze some more items off my list. How did you do this summer with your things to do and see summer list?
Happy Rest of theSummer All! Thanks for stopping by.
