Boy, oh boy is summer flying by! Here at the Betwixt I am scurrying around updating spaces room by room before school starts. The entry way has been a blank space for the past two years minus a coat rack I slapped on the wall one day since we don’t have a coat closet as you walk up the inside stairs to our condo to place your coat on.
One thing I’ve always thought this space lacked was a place to sit to put 0n and take off shoes and boots. I also needed a an easy to reach place for mittens, gloves, and scarves. I found this bench at Lowe’s with baskets included for $59.
This fit our space perfectly. I think a padded seat cushion is in this bench’s future to add a pop of color and add some comfortable seating.
I snatched this sign out of the 80% clearance aisle at Hobby Lobby. It cost me a mere $2.90. I didn’t look carefully to realize the “e” in Love was missing until I got home. Live, Love, Laugh is my favorite quote and I simply needed it to greet me each day at the entry way. I went back to Hobby Lobby to return it for a perfect one but as Murphy’s Law has it there were NONE! I decided to return home with the sign without it’s e and make my own. Teachers have a way of reinventing new creations to meet their needs.
I used some modeling clay to adhere to the wall and bottom line of the phrase and it looks like it should. Voila! It looks good as new, and blends in with the other letters.
I took two clipboards and used a sponge brush with some chalkboard paint from Lowe’s that I had in my paint supply.
I had the two quotes on the clipboard from a calendar I picked up at a clearance sale this summer.
Rugs anchor the space. Whether it’s a classroom or home, a rug grounds the space. I needed a small rug in front of the bench that wouldn’t show dirt and grime easily from outside. I shopped around in my own house rather than fleeing to a store to shop for something new. I had this red chevron rug I purchased at Kohl’s last year at my front door. I placed the rug in the space and knew it was perfect. I had the pillows in my guest room which I knew would be perfect in this space.
This space feels so complete and welcoming as you walk up the stairs to the condo. Adding a seat cushion and an umbrella rack will complete the space.
