On a recent trip to the Goodwill I was able to snag this beat up black coffee table for a mere $20. . It has solid wood bones but needs lots of cleaning up and buffing as it is terribly scratched up. I liked the shelf below which allows for basket to store items, books or family albums. The black is too dark for my living room but with a little paint and sanding it will be perfect for our needs.
After a light sanding of 100 grit sandpaper I applied one coat of Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint. I did not dilute the paint at all as I usually do and it was obvious I needed another coat. Already this ugly duckling is transforming into a white Swan!
I did a light sanding with 100 grit paper and used wood filler in some deep spots. I had this stain leftover from my Dad’s Desk Project and applied one coat on the top of the coffee table. It covered very nicely and didn’t need another coat.
After two coats of the Annie Sloan Old White and the Java Gel Stain this is a big improvement on this table’s former status.
I have more projects percolating and ready to finish so stay tuned for more next week.
